Mark Turek of Randolph, ME Sep 25, 2008 The People's Veto is not just about one of Maine's most wasteful pet projects (a.k.a., Dirigo Health), this veto is about bad political actions in Augusta. It's about the countless lies and broken promises from our so-called "state leaders" in Augusta. It's about our constitutional rights as Americans. As you can tell from this doctor's letter, certain special interest groups want to maintain the status quo for Dirigo, but Maine residents should ask themselves why is that?
To learn more about the facts of this issue, here are two good resources for you: 1. Maine Taxpayers United is a statewide, grassroots organization which communicates to Maine citizens through various media, including our own extensive email network. Educating Maine voters on issues regarding taxation and government spending, and the actions of legislators and the governor, is an essential objective for us. The MTU's mission is to reduce our state and local tax burden and promote prudent government spending. FMI: www.mainetaxpayers.com Fed Up With Taxes is a coalition of Maine citizens, businesses and organizations who are tired of paying high taxes. The coalition is seeking to undo a recently enacted law increasing the tax on beer and wine AND adding new taxes on flavored water, sports drinks, colas, diet colas, juice drinks AND health insurance claims. Our coalition believes Maine people should decide for themselves if they are fed up with taxes. We have organized a People's Veto to give you that opportunity. FMI: www.fedupwithtaxes.org Please Vote YES! on #1 in November. We must get control of our state's wasteful spending habits, and help lower the overall tax burden on Mainers. The status quo needs to stop! |
